Nature offers everyday new remedies, new opportunities to feel well in body and mind.
One of these opportunities is given by the hot springs of the Versilia where two extraordinary discoveries have given birth to a beauty farm and to an extraordinary spa resort: Hotel Villa Undulna and its Thermal Baths of the Versilia, it lies in Cinquale di Montignoso, only 3 kilometres from the important Forte dei Marmi.
First news: a source which water salt-bromo-iodic composition and rich in mineral salts
Due to this source, not far away from the sea, the Versilia has a own spa resort. This water, that gushes from the underground at a temperature of 17° C, is a result of natural processes combining the mountain waters with salt deposits of an ancient sea. Rich in iodic, (much higher content than sea water), sodium and bromine salts that have a stimulating effect on the body.
Iodic stimulates the metabolism, bromine has a calming effect and sodium has a draining action.
This spa water is a prodigiuos mixture, it soothes muscles, it releases tension, is efficacious in treatment of articular inflammation and cellulite and is indicated for loosing weight and increasing energy.
Several studies have demonstrated that spa waters has an invigorating effect on immune system, increasing the production of immunoglobulin and of some enzymes, changing the metabolism of the subcutaneous tissues and improving the exchange of nutrients.
Balneotherapy slows down tissue’s degeneration which may cause arthrosis or cellulite, arthrosis and marks of ageing may be stopped. This water gives us youth, health and wellbeing. The therapeutic validity of treatment and prevention of arthrorheumatic affections has been recognized by the Italian Department of Health .
Second news: a peat deposit has been discovered, the only one in Italy, in the basin of the lake Massacciuccoli. The peat is a natural product and has the aspect of a dark soft substance. It has its origin in the transformation of some plants, which grew in the marshes and in cool wet areas and that give the soil a high acidity (pH 3,9-4,5) which restrain the decaying of organic tissues. When the plants die their tissues undergo a very slowly transformation and finally they transform themselves into peat, rich in mineral salts. The therapeutic peat from Massacciuccoli Lake, used at Villa Undulna is one of the best. It is brown and soft and formed almost 3000 years ago. Among its components are minerals, vitamins, enzymes, natural antibiotic factors and organic acids. A product having a wide range of beneficient properties. Peat has a draining and tonic effect and encourages skin’s regeneration, stimulating the activation of the micro circle, and contributes to the recovery of smoothness of the skin.
Due to the healing and rinvigorating properties a series of skin diseases can be treated: psoriasis, scalds, ulcers, dry eczema. Several studies have demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of the peat for the prevention and treatment of diseases of articulation.
The Thermal Resort Villa Undulna has received its name in honour of the poet D’Annunzio, who was a visitor of Spas. Peat and thermal waters are the protagonists of a wide range of health and beauty treatments and are offered in an avantgarde Wellbeing -Centre of the hotel. Besides the beauty treatments a series of thermal cures are available. A series of holistic treatments that are able to restore the body’s correct harmony threaten by the modern life style, e.g. the Ayurveda massage of Indian origin, shiatsu and watsu of Japanese origin, Hawaiian massage, massage with lava stones. The guests can take advantage of cosmetic treatments to improve little uneveness such as wrinkles, vibices, capillaries, spots etc.
The park, with an area of 30000 sq, lies on the costal street, between Marina di Massa and Forte dei Marmi, the guests can enjoy of a swimming pool with spa water, divided into two basins: one basin has water at a temperature of 30°C and the other is filled with spa water at temperature of 35° and suited for hydromassages.
The thermal centre and the thermal swimming pool can be accessed by external patients who are not guests of the hotel.
The establishment has a restaurant Il Vascello, which offers an excellent cuisine but counting the calories. When the weather is fine, it is possible to have lunch at the pool’s border.
